The Bardi Wind Orchestra
Musical Director
David Calow
The Bardi Wind Orchestra was formed 18 years ago from the extended wind, brass and percussion of the Bardi Symphony Orchestra, one of the countrys leading non-professional orchestras. This Leicester-based ensemble was first formed with the aim of performing the original repertoire written for symphonic winds, from the early 20th Centuryworks of Holst, Grainger and Vaughan Williams to the High School Bandworks from America by Stravinsky, Schoenberg and Hindemith. More recent concerts have shown the lighter side of the symphonic bands' repertoire with selections from shows, the movies, TV themes and popmusic.

Biography
The Bardi Wind Orchestra concerts are now much anticipated events drawing large and enthusiastic audiences to De Montfort Hall and Holy Trinity Church on Regent Road each year for their sell-out Summer and Christmas Concerts. The orchestras live concert recordings on CD have proved very popular and are one of the best selling items on the Friends of the Bardi Orchestra stall! One of the highlights of 2004 was the Rainbows 10th Anniversary Open Air Firework "Magic of the Movies" concert. This was the Wind Orchestra's first Firework Concert and such was the success of the event that an immediate repeat invitation was made to appear in the 2005 resulting in "TheMagic of theMusicals". May 2005 also saw the De Montfort Hall debut of theOrchestra, performing at the GalaConcert in celebration of 100 years of the Leicester General Hospital and the Lord Mayors Kidney Care Appeal. In June 2006 the Orchestra returned to the DMHto celebrate the 20th Anniversary of LOROS, followed in 2007 by Wind Brass and All That Jazz supporting HOPE Against Cancer. The 2008 Gala Concert again supported LOROS and in 2009 the Wind Orchestra performed the official concert celebrating Leicester hosting the Special Olympics. 2010 saw the Orchestra supporting the Rainbows Hospice again, marking the opening of the new extension and this year the Orchestra is proud to be in association with Oadby & Wigston Lions Club.
