Members’ News – 13th August 2021

Evening All,

I am getting in contact with everyone to let you know that the Bardi 2021/22 De Montfort Hall Season was launched today and so finally we are up and running!

Bardi De Montfort Hall 2021/22 Concert Season
The information about the four concerts can be found on both the DMH and Bardi Websites. No doubt many will have seen Facebook and other Social Media postings already which went out earlier today. In particular we have put together a short Trailer which I urge everyone to see! I will also attach the Season flyer which has the details of the 4 concerts. We are in the position of not meeting until the end of September for the first rehearsal and so please do share this with as many relations and friends as possible.
The Council has put two documents together about how the audience and performers will be allowed into the Hall for performances. Discussions are ongoing about some points but the most important aspect is that there is no social distancing in the Hall at all and so if everything goes to plan, we will be playing in our usual positions on the stage. There are also no limits on numbers backstage.
The NHS App on a phone showing vaccination status or printed form is preferred for both Front & Stage Door entry, but an enhanced orchestra list will also be supplied by me with a contact number against each name, which they are also happy to have as a back up.

Bardi Players Ticket discount
As in previous years, we have set up a discount for Bardi players when you book on line at DMH. At the moment the Box Office is not open to the public and so they are asking for all purchases to be done on line and they will be issuing ‘e’ tickets.
We are offering a £2 discount on all full price tickets anywhere in the hall. This means that they are 50p cheaper than the concession rate.

The Bardi discount Code is;   BARDI2122

Please remember that it is only for players to use.

Rehearsals
We have now received confirmation that we are able to rehearse at Leicester Grammar School. We are just waiting for final details on which hall the rehearsals will be in each time.
Timings will be the same as before;
Weekdays   7-9.45pm
Sundays  10am-1pm/2-5pm
If any dates are unavailable at LGS, then our first alternative will always be the main hall at Wigston College (ex Guthlaxton).

Other Bardi Concerts
There are two other Bardi Symphony Orchestra concerts during the season;

LGS/Bardi Student concert
Saturday 6th November LGS main Hall – rehearsals Sunday 31st, Friday 5th and Saturday 6th November afternoon, concert in the evening. All details TBC

Bardi Young Musician concert – Conductor Paul Hilliam
Sunday 30th January 2022 English Martyrs – rehearsals Monday 24th, Friday 28th and Sunday 30th morning, concert in the afternoon.

We are going for a bit of a relaunch of the Young Musician Competition with it being open to all orchestra instrumentalists this time.
Applications open on 20th August 2021.
Auditions will be at the end of October and full details will be available very soon.
An updated Schedule will be posted in the Members section on the website in due course. Password is Mahler5.

IMPORTANT; I will be catching up with each section in the very near future to ask for availability for each concert. I am sure that everyone will realise how important it is to know exactly where we stand player-wise well before the start of the season given the big enforced break we have all been through.

Bardi Interview No.5 David Calow
Finally I can also confirm that John Florance’s interview with David is now on the website so please do pop in and have a look to see how his music choices differed from mine!

With best wishes,

Robert
